A new brand of helmet has launched into hockey in North America, and should be visible when the NHL puck drops for the 2007-08 season. Cascade Ice Hockey, the new division of Cascades Lacrosse of Liverpool, NY, recently expanded into Canada and the US through a dealer network in US and through TPS Hockey in Canada. “We have exceeded our plans and are very pleased with sales and support to date,” says Cascade vice-president Bob Colburn. Working in Cascades favor is 20 years in the helmet business in lacrosse, where the company enjoys status as the official helmet of Major League Lacrosse, and the headgear of choice among Division I teams in the NCAA. |

Well, for all those long-suffering Toronto Maple Leaf fans in the world, Saturday night was either heart-wrenching or somewhat comical. Depending on your age, watching the 1967 Stanley Cup championship Leaf team paraded onto the ice may have brought back some fond memories of childhood, your early hockey heros and those first years when you came to love the sport. If you're a little older, but still a die-hard Leaf fan waiting for your team's return to glory, you might have chuckled at the fact that the team's last Cup champs are well into their senior years, that all the images of that 1967 championship seem to be in black and white. It’s been 40 years since the Leafs last won the Stanley Cup--four full decades of futility since Johnny Bower and George Armstrong led the 1966-67 Leafs to the title. Since then, the only silver paraded down Bay St. is the bling fashioned by commuters during their daily trek through the city’s financial district, or by brokers en route to the trading floor. The cruel jokes have officially begun. For example: what's one thing the Toronto Maple Leafs have that the Montreal Canadiens don't? Black and white photography of their last Stanley Cup championship. Bada bump! |
